Why solar panels and battery together?
Solar power used immediately does not need to pass through a battery. For storage, look at the surplus that remains and what you need later.

Example: 10 panels rated at 400 Wp
This example assumes 10 panels rated at 400 Wp and annual consumption of 3,000 kWh. Panel generation in kWh is not the same as this peak power. Both guidelines provide an initial indication.
The ranges overlap at about 4.9 to 6 kWh. This is not an automatic product selection: check the actual daily pattern and compare usable capacity. Calculations use unrounded intermediate values.
From kWp to an initial capacity range
Multiply total solar array capacity in kWp by 1 to 1.5. This is a guideline, not a prediction of daily surplus. Also check consumption and how much solar power you use directly.
Frequently asked questions
How many kWh with 10 solar panels?
That depends on output per panel. Ten panels rated at 400 Wp give 4 kWp in total. The guideline of 1 to 1.5 kWh per kWp then gives 4 to 6 kWh as an indication. Compare that result with consumption.
What if the two guidelines disagree?
Do not automatically choose the larger result. Differences may reflect high consumption, limited panels or substantial direct use. Have measured generation and consumption assessed before choosing a size.
What changes when net metering ends?
The Dutch net metering scheme ends on 1 January 2027. Exported electricity can then no longer be offset against imported electricity; a feed-in payment remains. This change alone does not determine the right battery capacity.
Can the check advise without solar panels?
The range is intended as a guide to solar storage. Without existing or planned panels, the check does not give personal solar-storage advice. Use with dynamic tariffs needs a separate assessment of costs, controls and risks.
Can I expand the battery later?
That depends on the model, supported modules and manufacturer conditions. Ask for supported expansion to be specified before purchase. A modular design does not mean every future combination is possible.
